Imagine if you can the epitome of the African serenghetti and you can begin to comprehend what Kinshasa really is. It is mostly a plain that rarely gets precipitation so it also counts as a desert. It lies in a peninsula surrounded by mountains, in effect isolating it from the rest of the civilized lands. Few enter the area and even less so desire to cross Kinshasa. To its north lies the Jungles of !iodye (! is African clicking noise) an area far more dangerous so brave or foolhardy expeditions trek through Kinshasa to go the "long way around". Savage humanoid nomads call this place their home and are very apprehensive towards strangers and city folk, starting attitude is unfriendly at best. The few actual permanent tribes are those controlled by the Barbarians of Kinshasa, (most warriors there have levels in Barabarian, most experienced ones go the path of the totem warrior, using lion or ostrich mounts). The Barabarian's tribes are strangely cosmopolitan, containing a large array of savage humanoid types that live peacefully, most of the time. Trusted envoys from neighboring kingdoms engage in some trade with them in order to assure safe travel through Kinshasa and sometimes even a Barbarian guide/escort. A Knowledge Nature/Geography/Survival/ check DC 20 can point you towards a nearby oasis which are oddly prevalent along the area. Going in on foot is only advised for short expeditions, a day's travel or two tops. Camels are overkill unless you want to map the entire area. There used to be a few ports along the windless coasts, but they were destroyed by the Barbarians after several raids from the Luerkont slave traders left their huts burned, warriors killed, and noncombatant survivors abducted and sold in other lands. PCs can trade with Kinshasans should they ever get their trust, but few items of importance are here, the closest thing to a shopkeeper only has items of 50gp or lower. On some occasions they have a rare item they scavenged from unlucky travelers and half the time do not know their true value or worth.
